Yahoo Chat: An Old Favorite with Some Changes
Yahoo Chat is a big part of Yahoo, one of the biggest things online. People use Yahoo for e-mail, games, music downloads, blogging and lots of other internet tools. If you are currently a Yahoo Chat user, you may be aware that they no longer support Java users; however, they now offer “Yahoo Messenger with Voice” as an alternative. If you do not want to switch from Java, you will need to register with another IM service.
For those who are not familiar with Yahoo Chat, you might want to go on and look around. You will not be able to access some of the features until you are a registered member, but you can get a basic idea of what is available to you as a member. The site says that there are “hundreds” of chat rooms set up based on nearly every type of need and interest. A quick scan of the categories reveals that you can chat about everything from Business to Religion and everything in between on Yahoo Chat.
Yahoo Messenger is a popular feature of Yahoo Chat that many people use on a regular basis. You can see who is online to chat and you can block selected people from seeing that you are online without hiding yourselves from the others. This is a nice privacy feature that is a more recent addition to Yahoo Chat.
For quite some time, you have been able to use your Blackberry to e-mail people, but now you can also use Yahoo Chat on your Blackberry while you are out on the go.
You can limit your chat to those in the United States or you can access chat rooms from many other countries and continents as well.
There are many chat room services online that you can use. Many have similar features to Yahoo, but it is just one of the more popular ones. Since membership is free, unless you want some of the more “exclusive” features such as video chat, you might want to give it a try. Make sure that you understand all of the rules and agreements before you register so that you will be able to continue to chat as long as you wish.
